Like many SOHO businesses we tried to stay focused on our primary purpose but the needs of our clients has led us astray. We began using our knowledge of local search optimization to help get clients found. In the process we discovered some things about many local businesses.
The skills we have acquired are proving valuable in many ways but businesses need more than SEO, they need an integrated marketing plan. Businesses need to stretch their strained advertising budgets further than ever. This means analyzing data the way big companies do to target purchasing customers instead of “tire-kickers”, understanding where current customers are coming from and how they react to products and services. It means focusing advertising in places that work, places that maximize existing customers and adding more. But this must be done without a massive increase in budget.
We have discovered that business owners and managers are very knowledgeable about their products and services but often don’t understand all the marketing mediums available to them. They have much of the data they need to optimize their marketing but don’t know how to read it or how to get more. They don’t understand why this data is valuable enough to bother getting in the first place.
This discovery about small businesses in general has exposed a fundamental need and LRM is refocusing to face this need. We can still perform all the local SEO optimization functions through our network of freelance experts, but our primary focus will be to provide consulting services to help businesses optimize their marketing in general.
